Stephan Trent, DO
Program Director

Dr. Trent joined the faculty in 2002. He served as Interim Program Director for one year, prior to becoming the permanent Director in 2008. He is originally from Tennessee and practiced rural family medicine for eighteen years and then was faculty at an osteopathic family practice residency in Kentucky prior to joining the faculty at UWFPRP. He graduated from University of Health Sciences in Kansas City. He completed an osteopathic internship in Flint, MI and then a two-year surgical preceptorship in Tennessee. His primary focus and passion is OB/Gyn, especially the operative components, and performs everything from C-sections and tubal ligations to vasectomy and colposcopy with LEEP and cryotherapy. He coordinates the OB Track and Ob-Gyn rotations. Dr. Trent also serves as the Osteopathic Program Director and was instrumental in achieving our osteopathic accredidation.

Beth Robitaille, MD
Associate Program Director

Dr. Robitaille joined the faculty in 2000. Another Casper native, she attended medical school at Creighton after graduating from Notre Dame. She completed her residency training at North Colorado Family Medicine in Greeley, CO. She has special interests in women’s health and pediatrics. She coordinates the Pediatrics curriculums, coordinates rotations, and the clinic and call schedules for both residents and faculty. She and her husband, John, have three sons, who keep them quite busy when not at work!

Ray Johnson, PA-C
Assistant Professor

Ray has been with the residency program since near its inception in the 1970s. Born and raised in Sheridan, WY, he graduated from Emory University in Atlanta, GA and practiced in rural Colorado before returning to Wyoming. He and his wife have two grown daughters and are blessed with two grand-daughters. Ray coordinates the Sports Medicine curriculum, which has been newly revised. He also instructs the ATLS course for much of the state. Finally, he helped create and now coordinates the ER Track. He currently is serving as Vice-President on the Wyoming Board of Medicine. He also spends some of his time assisting in surgery with several community surgeons. He is an important liaison with our medical community, and one of the reasons that a strong relationship exists between the residency and community physicians.

Michael Miller, DO
Assistant Clinical Professor

Michael, a Colorado native, completed his training at this residency in 2003 and stayed on with us. He became full-time faculty in 2004, after working as a CHCCW provider for one year. He has special interests in third world medicine and has completed many medical missions throughout the world. He coordinates several rotations, including CM, Ophtho, BM and Rural Rotations. He has developed our WM Curriculum as well as our GM opportunities. He recently served as the President of the STFM International medicine Committee. Michael and his wife, Amy, also have three busy boys.

Brian Veauthier, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor

Dr. Veauthier graduated from our program in 2004. He then went on to do a fellowship in pediatrics, obstetrics and procedures in Tacoma, Washington. Shortly after the fellowship he worked in a Community Center Network in Olean, NY. He attended Notre Dame for his undergraduate studies and received his MD from Georgetown. He is very happy to be back in Wyoming with his wife, Bridget, and their three girls.

Tom Radosevich
Assistant Clinical Professor

Dr. Radosevich graduated from UWFPRP in 2002 and joined the staff shortly thereafter. He is originally from Rock Springs, WY and attended medical school at Creighton University as well. He has a natural and comfortable demeanor about him—a wonderful trait for a physician and teacher. Dr. Radosevich is very procedure oriented, both in the office and hospital settings, and is skilled in surgical obstetrics. He and his wife, Tori, have four young ones that keep them busy at home.

Steven Andersen, MD, MPH and TM
Assistant Clinical Professor

Dr. Andersen is the newest addition to our faculty. He graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and completed his Family Medicine training at Oral Roberts University in Oklahoma. He also received his Masters of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from Tulane University. Dr. Andersen has significant global medicine experience, practicing for many years in both Africa and Haiti. He also has interest in Emergency Medicine, and practiced rural EM in small town Minnesota. He and his family are excited for their next adventure in rural Wyoming!

Zach Deiss, MD
Assistant Clinical Professor

Dr. Deiss attended Creighton University School of Medicine. He also completed his Family Medicine training here at the UWFMRP at Casper. He then practiced full spectrum rural family medicine in Anaconda, MT for many years prior to returning to Wyoming. He practiced rural Emergency Medicine across Wyoming for several years. He also has been a visiting attending for many years, until 2008, when he officially joined our faculty. His special interests in medicine include Emergency Medicine and Global Medicine. He travels to Honduras annually with our residents as part of the Shoulder to Shoulder Program.

Fred Deiss, MD
Adjunct Faculty

Dr. Deiss has practiced for over 40 years throughout Wyoming. He is the quintessential rural doc! His special interest lies with obstetrics, where his gentle touch and incredible skills amaze us all. We are blessed to have him as part of our program. He provides clinic attending coverage and surgical OB coverage for our program.

Jaime Hornecker, Pharm-D
Assistant Professor

Dr. Hornecker serves as the Pharmacy Education Director at UWFPRP. She instructs UW pharmacy students as they rotate through our clinic and oversees our Pharm-D residency clinical here which began in 2002. She provides monthly Journal Club and pharmacy lectures to the UWFPRP residents. She also has oversees the Coumadin clinic for CHCCW patients, and provides many other clinical and educational services.

Martin Ellbogen Jr., MD
Medical Director

Dr. Ellbogen is a Casper native. He completed his medical training at Creighton University, SOM, where he also completed his Internal Medicine residency and his Infectious Disease fellowship. He returned to Casper nearly 10 years ago and has practiced in several areas of medicine, including the Community Health Center’s Medical Director, and Infectious Disease. He was the Medical Director and Founder of the Wyoming Medical Center’s Hospitalist service. He returned to the Community Health Center in 2008 and we are extremely pleased to have his exceptional leadership and admirable medical expertise under our roof.

Cindy Works, MD
Adjunct Faculty / CHCCW Staff

Dr. Works practiced in Africa for nearly 14 years before returning to her native Casper with her husband and four children. She has a wealth of knowledge and experience in third world medicine and HIV/AIDS management. She has become the new cornerstone of the Geriatrics rotation and performs nursing home visits, home visits, geriatric assessment team clinics, and memory (dementia) clinics.

Sharon Karnes, MD
Adjunct Faculty / CHCCW Staff

Another Wyoming native, Dr. Karnes joined our staff in 2004 after completing medical school at the University of Washington and her Family Practice residency at the University of Utah. She is a physician champion of our Depression Collaborative. At home, she is kept busy with her one year old son.

Dale Ross, MD

Dr. Ross attended Dartmouth University School of Medicine. He then completed his Family Medicine training here at the UWFMRP at Casper, graduating in 2008. While a resident, Dr. Ross served as a Chief Resident and completed the two year OB Surgical Track. After graduation, he joined the CHCCW to continue to serve our community. He remains quite active in the OB care of our patients and serves as one of our Surgical OB attendings. Dr. Ross and his family enjoy the Wyoming way of life on their “little piece of heaven” on the banks of the North Platte river.

Val Goen, PA-C
Adjunct Faculty / CHCCW Staff

Val grew up on a ranch in Southeast Wyoming and practiced as a registered nurse before she became a PA through the MEDEX program. She is specially trained in child abuse and neglect issues. She assists in administration of clinical services at the CHCCW. Finally, she is the current Wyoming “PA of the Year,” and has organized the WAPA Annual CME Summer Conference for 2008.

John Noffsinger, PA-C

John worked as an athletic trainer prior to becoming a PA through the University of Utah program. He has a strong background in orthopedics and sports medicine and is highly involved with our Sports Medicine experience.

Virginia Myers — MPAS

Virginia graduated from Black Hills State University and then received her Masters of Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska. She has been with us at the CHCCW since 2004. She has special interests in womens’ health issues. Outside of work, Virginia enjoys spending time with her husband and son.

Brooke Umphlett — PA-C

Brooke, a Casper native, joined us at the CHCCW in 2009 after she had completed her Family Medicine core rotation with us a few months earlier. She attended the University of Wyoming for her undergraduate education and then received her Physician Assistant degree from D’Youville College in upstate New York. Brooke has special interests in preventive health and promotion of an active, healthy lifestyle. An avid runner, Brooke is often training for marathons. She always has a smile on her face and is a strong patient advocate.

Jane Cassel — PA-C

Jane has been practicing medicine for more than 25 years, many of which have been spent with us at the UWFMRP and CHCCW. Most recently she returned to us to join our Senior Care clinic, specializing in the care of our geriatric patients. She attended the University of Wyoming for her undergraduate education, and received her Physician Assistant degree from Wichita State University. Jane has worked with many of our community specialists, including our cardiologists, general surgeons and cardiothoracic surgeons. We are pleased to have her back as part of our team.
