Osteopathic recognition from the ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medicine Education)
Our doctors of osteopathy use a number of techniques for healing the whole body through osteopathic medicine. We train resident physicians in osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT), which provides hands on osteopathic manipulation of bones, muscles and joints. This holistic approach aligns with family medicine practices and is used to diagnose, treat and prevent illness.
In the summer of 2016, we received osteopathic recognition from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Dually accredited by the ACGME and the AOA since 2004, this recognition supports the comprehensive health care services and medical education provided at our program.
This acknowledgement also reflects our efforts to provide specialized training in osteopathic principles and osteopathic manipulation for DO residents and qualified MD residents. This training includes the osteopathic approach to patients in the hospital, clinic and nursing home settings.
