The Casper community is an impressive one, supported by thriving business, cultural diversity, educational opportunities, and a comprehensive network of dedicated healthcare professionals.

The Casper residency program has flourished within this medical community for over 45 years. Established in 1976, the UWFMRP-Casper is a community-based program with an 8-8-8 residency model. A message from Brian Veauthier, MD, the program director:

Veauthier-Program-Director-(1)

Welcome! We are happy you are visiting our website and exploring all we have to offer in Casper. I know I am biased, but Casper is a great place for residency training. Our “claim to fame” is training residents for rural and frontier family medicine. We have a strong record of success with graduates practicing full scope rural family medicine (including C-sections) throughout the country. We also give residents the ability to tailor their education with multiple tracks and areas of focus allowing graduates to practice as hospitalist, ER physicians, in outpatient clinics, as well as other specialties in family medicine. Osteopathic training is also an important part of our identity earning our program Osteopathic Recognition through the ACGME.

Our clinic is a Federally Qualified Health Center so we also have a special interest in caring for the underserved and promoting health equity. Our family medicine faculty provide the full complement of care- modelling just about every aspect of family medicine. We provide outpatient care with procedures, MAT therapy, Osteopathic manipulation, home visits, adult inpatient care, inpatient pediatric and nursery care, obstetrical care including C-sections, nursing home care, and palliative care.

Wyoming Medical Center offers sophisticated, state of the art medicine while still maintaining a smaller community hospital feel. Our community specialists are outstanding physicians, dedicated to resident education.

Within our residency, we strive to create a learning environment that promotes wellness and highly values team work. The ability to be a team player is one of the most important things I look for in a candidate. We value work/life balance and we are fortunate to be located in Casper, Wyoming with easy access to amazing recreational activities. As program director, I try to model this balance. Most days of the week, I make sure to re-charge by heading to Casper Mountain to either run the Bridle Trail or ski the Nordic trails- depending on the season. Finally, candidates often ask about strengths of a program- my answer is always our people. Our organization is fortunate to have good, solid people- which is an asset that should not be under-estimated.

So- if you are interested in challenging yourself with the full breadth of rural family medicine, working towards health equity, being a great team player, and enjoying the unique experience of living in Casper, Wyoming- consider joining us for your residency.
