Geriatric Fellowship
Message from the Program Director
Welcome to our Geriatric Fellowship Program.
Caring for older adults is not just a medical specialty—it’s a calling. In rural communities like ours, where elders are the heart of families and the fabric of towns, the need for compassionate, comprehensive geriatric care is profound. Our fellowship is designed to equip physicians with the skills and experiences necessary to meet this need, particularly in underserved areas.
As a one-year, ACGME-accredited program, our fellowship offers immersive training across diverse settings: outpatient clinics, home visits, assisted living facilities, and skilled nursing facilities. Fellows engage in rotations encompassing neurology, hospice and palliative care, urology, and geriatric psychiatry, ensuring a well-rounded clinical experience.
Embedded within our Family Medicine residency, the fellowship fosters a collaborative environment where interdisciplinary learning thrives. This integration emphasizes the continuity of care and the importance of understanding patients within the context of their communities and families.
Our curriculum is tailored to address the complexities of aging, focusing on conditions such as dementia, osteoporosis, arthritis, and cardiovascular diseases, while prioritizing the maintenance of independence and quality of life for our patients. Through direct mentoring, journal clubs, ECHO lectures, and self-directed learning, fellows are encouraged to grow both clinically and academically.
We seek applicants who are passionate about elder care and committed to serving in rural settings. If you’re driven to make a meaningful impact on the lives of older adults and to become a leader in geriatric medicine, we invite you to join our program.
